incomplete installation of XP Home

Recently needed to install new hard drive. Loaded XP Home 1st time, no problems. PC worked fine for months. WHen came time for me to need to use XP disk again for a reboot, will only keep showing same message over & over right when trying to install
"Error
SXS.DLL: SSSSSyntax error in manifest or policy file D:\l386\asms\6000\MSFT\WINDOWS\COMMON\CONTROLS\CONTROLS.MAN on line 4

**
Fatal Error
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed
Incorect function.

Does anyone have ANY idea what to do? I NEED my PC back!!!!!

I am having the same problem loading windows xp.
error message cannot find i386\asms. if you find a fix can
you let me know how you done it?

I am also having problems installing Windows XP Home on a
new hard drive after installing OK on the previous one.
error message reads 'error 4096 at line 5010 in
D:\xpclient\base\boot\setup.C.'
Help also required please
