Incompatibility with Gmail and Outlook in sending outgoing mail?

I went to the Gmail group forum because all day long I get error messages
that my outgoing mail cannnot be send for a # of reasons: "does not support
SSL, incompatible SMTP, can't connect to server" etc. There were tons of
people in the group who had the same problem with outlook. Is there a bug
that needs to be worked out between these two programs? Any updates/patches
for this on the horizon? PS: IT works at times but much of the time it is a
problem. I have everything set up according to the Gmail website and I've
tried everything suggested in the GMAIL group forum.

I am having the exact same problem - and I am trying all the things you have
tried. Have you had any luck?

If so please reply - if we keep this post current maybe someone else can
help us.
