incoming emails disappear as they are received

on a brand new dell computer, I set up outlook to download mail from my ISP.
when I clicked send/recieve the inbox showed 33 messages received, but then
the probram froze while the counter on the inbox started to count backwards,
and when i could finally open the inbox, there were no messages in it. i
called a friend, asked him to send me an email while the inbox was open. I
received a popup notice that a new email had arrived, but as quickly as it
arrived it disappeared. Where are my emails going?
 
Check your view options.
Do not set up mail check option for less than 10mins
