Incoming email being received in duplicate in MS Outlook

I have read posts of "email dumping," however, my issue is a bit different.
When I trigger send/receive in Outlook, new incoming messages arrive in
pairs. This is a hassle and time-consuming keeping my inbox clear. Any
settings that I may have overlooked?
