Incoming email is not stored in the "Inbox"

Something happened and now I can not access all previously received email in
the the "Inbox"....they must be going somewhere -- I can access them in
"Unread" but as soon as I "read" they are obviously gone from Unread and
"Inbox" is empty.
 
Check your view. It might be set to display only Unread Messages. Change it
to Messages and you should be able to see the contents of your Inbox.

View > Current View.
