Incantation for adding backup tapes...

Some backup tapes are getting flakey. How do I initialize/label the tapes with
the name of the old tape, ie, put "Monday" on the new tape for use on Monday,
allocate/activate it and add it to the backup media pool?

I can't find anything that is not circular in the Microsoft documentation.

I suspect that it is easy and straightforward.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I'm being so dense, but I still can't figure out how to do what I need to
do by looking at this hint. I guess I need an overview of RSM that starts pretty
basic.

So let me start from the beginning.

I have a blank tape. I insert it into the tape drive.

- How do I "prepare" the tape? When I use the GUI interface I can only prepare
tapes that are already part of a media pool. Does this mean that I have to add
the tape to a media pool first? How do I do that?

- How do I label the tape. Is that part of what happens when I prepare a tape?

- Once properly labeled it seems that the tape will be in the free media pool.
Do I just drag and drop to put it into the backup media pool?

- How do I activate the tape?

- Anything else that I need to do to use the tape for backup?
