Inbuilt speakers not working

It happened after I was using msn messenger and
calling someone. It asked me if I wanted to change some of the settings and I
foolishly agreed. Now I cannot hear any sound from inbuilt speakers but
crystal clear through the headphone jack. I have tried all obvious solutions
and trouble shooted audio devices to no avail.

Open the sounds control panel applet, under the audio tab... What have you
got listed for the default playback device? Try a few different ones if you
have more than one listed - that's *probably* where the problem is.
