inactive 'new mail' 'reply' etc buttons?!?!

This has to be the most frustrating problem I've ever faced with a microsoft
product. I really hope someone out there has had a similar problem and can
help me.

Basically I can press the "Send/Recieve" button, and that functions
correctly. However the 'Send' button, as well as the 'Reply', 'Reply to all'
and 'Foward' buttons are all grey and cannot be clicked.

I have two accounts on Outlook 2003, one with homecall on a pop3 server, and
another hotmail account using http protocol. Both of which show mail
recieved.

I'm also using Norton Internet Security 2005.

Thanks in advance!!

I had the same problem. All I did to get the button active was reboot.
After the reboot, I opened Outlook and all the inactive buttons are now
active.

Thanks for the quick responce. Unfortunatly I have rebooted many times. I
have even reinstalled office/norton, and other possible conflicting software
many times.
The buttons do appear active after a reboot, however the first time you
press them, they simply turn grey again.

Thanks Anyway.

Hi TomTom,

Did you ever solve this problem? I'm suffering the same problem and have
likewise rebooted numerous times to no avail.

Has anyone responded to your problem? As I have the same issue now. I was
told that it is a registry key problem, but this person didn't know which
one.

I would like to solve this problem, can anyone help?

Hi,

I believe the problem may have been to do with a 3 month trial I had on
office. Even though i had not activated it and installed my own copy, the
cut out was activated so that the buttons became inactive. To resolve it I
have reinstalled completely, putting in code etc. However, I still can't get
outlook to function properly but the other Ofiice programmes do work. Don't
suppose that helps much!! Sorry
