In English(Canadian), yet most punctuation does not work

I installed Office this morning. The language settings appear to be fine
(i.e. english), but most of the punctuation does not work. For example, the
question mark appears as an upper-case E with an accent. There is no problem
in other programs, so it is not the overall keyboard settings on the computer.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

You probably have an international keyboard layout selected in Windows.
See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306560 "How To Use the United
States-International Keyboard Layout in Windows XP", except that you
want to select the standard U.S. keyboard instead of the
U.S.-International keyboard.
