When writing fiction in English I sometimes use Spanish words, phrases or
sentences. How can I use correct Spanish punctuation which is not on my
keyboard, such as the tilde, or upside-down question marks or exclamation
points? I was told once that there is a feature of the number keypad that
enables this. Can anyone help me?

hi terryb..
You can use the punctuations using symbols in insert tab..
You can set shortcut keys for each punctuations like tilde or exclamation..
For assigning shortcuts:
Insert -> symbol -> more symbols..
Symbol dialog box will appear, on symbol tab select any symbol or punctuation which you want..
Click on shortcut key.Customise keyboard dialogbox will appear.
On "Press new shortcut keys" By pressing Ctrl+any key(a-z).
Click on Assign button. And then Close it...
Insert Dialog box will appear, and then click on Insert Button.. and click on Close..
Everytime when you want to insert the same symbol or punctuation, just click on the shortcut key you have assigned..
Thank you......

All the accented letters for Spanish (and the other Western European
languages) are already available in your keyboard. For n with tilde,
type Ctrl-Shift-~ and n. For acute accent, type Ctrl-' and the vowel
it goes on. Etc.

For the upside down exclamation and question mark, find them in Insert
Symbol and, if you're going to use them a lot, assign keyboard
shortcuts to them.

Grammatim, When I type Ctrl-Shift ~ and then the "n" key, I get a capital
"N". How do I type a lower case "n" with the ~ over it? Thanks.

Ctrl+Shift+~ is the "setup key." You must release all these keys before
pressing n. My guess is that you're not releasing Shift before typing n.

[google groups was broken most of the weekend]

Note that the notation "Ctrl-Shift-~" means you have to hold all three
keys at once, and then release them. That'll give you n, a, o, N, A,
or O with tilde.

NNTP is never broken. <g>
