Importing videos

I'm trying to see if anyone has found a way to import a video with the file
type of MOV?
 
Any thoughts on why I can't import a mpg file? I went through Video Re-Do to
convert a VOB to mpeg and can't get it to open. I keep getting the
"encountering a problem' message and the application closes. Thanks--Kathleen
