Importing Symantec Winfax into Microsoft Fax

R

Ric

Hello,

I would like to start using the Microsoft Fax facility in Win XP and
uninstall Symantec Winfax which (even in version 10.03) keeps causing
Outlook 2003 to crash.

My only issue is that I have many hundreds of sent and received faxes. Is
there a way to import these into Outlook and use the Windows fax facility to
view them?

I have tried googling on this but have not yet turned up anything.

Many thanks,

Ric

Good question for Symantec.
In what format are these faxes?

I've looked in the data folder of Winfax and the faxes seem to have
extensions "FXD" - but there are other files with the extensions "AAR" and
"CVR" which may be associated with the fax itself.

You suggest that this is a question for Symantec - but I doubt they will be
too keen to suggest means of exporting their data format to a rival product.
Isn't it more a question for Microsoft? I would really like to get rid of
Symantec Winfax completely but can only do so if I can transfer my data to
Windows fax console.

Feel free to ask, but I sure don't know.
If it is a proprietary Symantec format then the question is for them.
Outlook has no ability to convert these files.

Proprietary format. File, Export in WinFax is the one option. And that
supports only text or DBase formats (which shows how out of date WinFax is).
The tedious alternative is to open each fax you want exported in WinFax's
Message Manager and select File, Export there. You can then individually
export faxes as TIFF or BMP or PCX as graphics formats.
