Importing pst files from another pc

I have an old laptop running Office 97 which I have just formatted and
rebuilt. When I try to import pst files from my desktop I get a dialogue box
saying 'File access is denied. You do not have the permission required to
access the file' (pst files on a cd rom from my desktop) I am running Office
2003 on my desktop and 97 on the laptop. I had the same problem when I tried
to tranfer pst files from my old desktop to the current one which both ran
Office 2003. I had to rebuild my address book in the end and lost my messages
altogther. I am the sole user of all machines and am the administrator

Any file that's been on a CD becomes read only.
Remove that attribute.
Why are you importing this file? It is an Outlook file. Just open it.

Thanks Russ, but how do I remove the attribute on a CD-R. Before recording
with Nero? If I try to open the PST file I get a message asking me to choose
a programme to open it but none of them will do so.

You must move the file to a hard drive. Then R click > Properties.
PST files can only be opened from within Outlook, never from Windows
Explorer.
File > Open...

Then you have left something out of your story. If this is a file you
created in Outlook 2003, it cannot be opened in earlier versions unless you
had expressly created the file in the old format (File > New > Outlook Data
File > Outlook 97-2002 format). Exporting a file from Outlook 2003 will
always create a file incompatible with earlier versions.
