Import outlook pst file - "file access denied"

NeedinHelp

Two computers an older XP and a new laptop with Vista 32 bit system both are
running Office 2007. Had to reinstall the OS on Vista machine. Totally
updated and runnin now. I then exported the pst file to a disc on the XP
machine. Took it to the Vista machine to load it and am unable to import
the file. Error reads "File access denied. You do not have the poermission
required to access the file D:\outlookbackup.pst.". Any help would be
appreciated.

#1 - If you are trying to access the PST on the CD/DVD - you can't since it
will be a read only file
#2 - If you copied the file from the CD/DVD to your hard drive on new
system - right click on the PST file and clear the "Read Only" attribute

As an aside, if you literally "exported" the PST file to another PST file -
do yourself a favor and trash the exported file. Instead, simply copy the
original PST file to the desired location and proceed accordingly.
"Exporting" is absolutely the wrong way to move your data in this instance
(but doesn't change items #1 or #2 above)

Don't import. It loses data. Copy the file to your internal HDD, remove any
read-only attribute and then in Outlook do File-Open-Outlook Data File.

This info is posted on ALL the Outlook groups on a daily basis....
