importing mpeg

When I import an mpeg file it won't break it into clips
and when I play it in the viewer I only get sound, but no
picture. This did not happen on a previous computer
(SONY-just like this one) Can any one help?
 
If they are MPEG2 files, then playback/importing is completely dependent on
the third party MPEG2 decoder installed on your computer. Most do not work
well. See the Importing Source Files > Video > MPEG2 page of
