I've got to transfer my e-mails from outlook express which I have running on
my desktop, to outlook 2003 which is running on my laptop. I thought I could
simply copy all the files (.dbx) to the laptop and then import the whole lot
into outlook. Each time I try it tells me "the mail folder could not be
opened. if another application is using this file, please close it and try
again.! I've set the attributes of files and folders so that they are not
archive or read only, but it still does just the same. Perhaps I'm missing
something very obvious? Any suggestions how I can get round this problem are
gratefully received!!

Many thanks

Did you take off the read only on the .dbx files? Perhaps, importing them
into OE first, followed by using OL to import from OE would work.

You can try booting into Safe Mode, copy the files and then get them
transferred.

You need to use "Import from another program" to open OE files. OE and
Outlook are not related.

Mary, you're nuts. Outlook simply cannot import OE files.

Don't forget to take the WAB with you as well. After transferring the dbx
and wab files to your laptop, configure Outlook Express there and import the
dbx files into OE and the wab into Windows Address Book. Then you'll be
able to export messages to Outlook from OE. You can import addresses
(contacts) from OE using Outlook.*

*You can import messages from OE using Outlook, too, but their received date
will get changed to the date you imported them, so it's better to export
from OE to Outlook.

No, you're nuts. I've done it many times but directly from OE, not from a
back up of .dbx files.

Then you're not importing the files, now, are you?. Mary said to import the
"OE files", which is impossible. Read the messages for a change instead of
running your mouth when you don't know what you're talking about.
