Importing Eudora Mail & Attachments

Marty Sanchez

Hi All,

I've been a long time lurker in the group and have found a lot of great
help here which is why I'm turning to everyone here for some help.

Recently at my work, we have begun to migrate people from Eudora (v6.1.1)
to Outlook 2003.

While all the mailboxes (ie folders) and mail messages import without
issue, the attachments are not. Any email attachments are "imported" in as
only shortcuts. We've done some searches on the net and have concluded
that quite a few folks have encountered the same problem, but with no real
solution.

We have been able to replicate this problem with both Outlook XP and
Outlook 2003 using several different people's Eudora emails.

Anyone have a suggestion or a possible best practice we could try to mimic.

Thanks again for your assistance,

Marty

Doesn't Eudora save the attachments in the filesystem, not on the email?
Unless Eudora has a method of reattaching them, Outlook's only going to get
what is in the Eudora folders.

Try importing from Eudora using Outlook Express and then exporting from OE
to Outlook.

Try importing from Eudora using Outlook Express and then exporting from
OE to Outlook.

We've begun doing that, but I was hoping to find a way of eliminating the
use of OE as a middleware application.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Marty,

We are in the process of moving from Eudora to Outlook 2003. I thought that
you might be able to answer my questions since you have already gone through
the process.

I need to know the differences, not including such things as the Calendar,
Task etc. I need help to identify what things or how things will work
differently from Eudora to Outlook. For example: Outlook doesn't keep your
attachments, when the message is deleted Outlook deletes the attachment. In
Outlook, you must save attachments to keep them.

I'm trying to identify these types of differences to inform our end users
before they make the transition to Outlook 2003.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
