Importing e-mail messages

W

witteman

Hi,
I have WindowsXP SP2 Home Edition without MSExchange or Outlook.
Outlook Express6 is my default e-mail program and I received some
Outlook e-mails (.msg): When I tried to import these in Outlook Express
I get the error message "cannot import from MAPI". Is there a way to
convert .msg to .txt or get MAPI activated on my home addition?
Thanks

Frank

Outlook Express can import messages only from the default message store in
Outlook. You can import messages from a different store; however, this
requires changing the default store location in Outlook before you proceed
with importing. To find out more about your Outlook store locations, in
Outlook on the File menu, click Data File Management. You can view
information about your data files and make changes if needed.

Here's how:
1. In Outlook Express, on the File menu, point to Import, and then click
Messages.
2. In the list, click Microsoft Outlook, and then click Next.
Note If Outlook is not open, you will be prompted to select the Outlook
user profile (Outlook e-mail profile: A profile is what Outlook uses to
remember the e-mail accounts and the settings that tell Outlook where your
e-mail is stored.) where the messages are stored. Select a profile, and then
click OK.

3. Select the folders to import, and then click Next.
4. Click Finish.

Hope I could help.

Hi Rey,

I am afraid not as I don't have outlook nor do I have Exchange to set
up profiles, I am running a bare bones (Home Edition) version of
WindowsXP. The .msg were exported by another user that has Outlook and
then were e-mailed to me. If you have any other suggestions (besides
buying WindowsXP professional) please let me know...

Cheers

Frank

Best to post to an Outlook Express newsgroup.

Save the MSG files to your hard-drive > Rename each file with an EML
extension (e.g., Joe.msg => Joe.eml) > Drag the EML file into an open OE
folder.

You find out how by asking in a group with OUTLOOK, OUTLOOK EXPRESS or
OE in the title. Your post has nothing to do with XP.

Thanks but that did not work. The renamed file dragged OK to my OE 'I
Folder' but showed up as empty (no sender/receiver) also when doubl
clicking (blank message). Any other ideas?
