importing Desktop settings from another XP computer

I just upgraded to a much faster computer and I'd like to import all my
desktop icons and settings - lots of shortcuts to various folders and
especially to ftp sites created in My Network - to the new computer, rather
than having to manually re-create each one. I've already done this with the
Favorites folder. I've imported ALL files from the old hard drive onto the
new hard drive. I've alreay import all the files from the old Desktop and
Favorites to the new Desktop and Favorites folders, but it doesn't seem to
make and difference; they don't show up.

The old computer was XP Pro. The new one is XP Media Edition. Can this be
done?

Thank you Carey. These were helpful very articles. However I still have a
few things that need clarification, I hope you, or someone else who sees
this, can help me out.

I. I don't want to overwrite any screen settings or icons or any other
Favorites I already
have on the new computer. It sounds like this process might do that.
Reassure?

II. All I really want to import is the following:
A. MOST IMPORTANT: Desktop FTP shortcuts from "My Network Places."
I have a lot of these and I need the information from the
shortcuts, at
least the ftp address if not the password. I can't remember
all these, I count
on having the information recorded.
B. Favorites lislt from IE. I have a huge encylopedia of Favorites
subfolders. I
already copied the Favorites folder over and put all the entries
into the new
computer's Favorites folder, but they don't show up when I start
IE.
C. The desktop shortcut icons for progams and files. The locactions
of these files
will of course lbe changed on the new computer but it' s OK if
they don't work.
I can change them manually as I use them. I just want to have
the full set
of icons so I remember everything. In fact I could probably
make a screen shot
for this purpose. By the way there is an absolutely terrific
program called Desktop
Restore which puts "Save Desktop" and "Restore Desktop" entries
in your right-click
desktop popup menu. Works even after system crashes or Safe
Mode reboots.

It's starting to sound like using FAST might take longer than re-creating
this stuff manually.

Comment?
