Importing data into Distribution Lists

Hello, if I have a list of email addresses saved in an Excel file - can I
import them into a new distribution list in Outlook? - I don't want to import
them as separate contacts - they are only used for DL purposes.

If someone could let me know if it is possible rather than having to re-key
all the addresses it would be appreciated.

Thanks

It's not possible and, in fact, might not even be necessary. You could use the existing Excel list as the data source for a mail merge.

so would I perform the mail merge in Excel? If so, can you tell me where I
go to initiate the process?

I do not understand why everyone is saying that you cannot import a
distribution list from Excel into a new Outlook distribution list. I think
it's very easy. Here's how.

In Excel
1. Create your distribution list, one row for each record. You can either
put the name in column A and the email address in column B or, if you just
have addresses and no names, put those in column A.
2. Highlight columns A and B (or just column A if that's all you have) and
click Edit-Copy.

Go to Outlook and create a new distribution list
1. Click the down arrow next to New and click Distribution List.
2. Name it and then click Select Members.
3. Under "Add to distribution list", where is reads "Members", paste the
list you just copied into the Members area.
4. Click OK.

If you have a Global list, the entry in Excel column A must match that list.

We're only saying it because it's true. You are not importing anything. You
are using a well documented method that has been posted here many times for
pasting addresses into a DL which fails more often than it works unless the
addresses and separators are in precisely the correct format. Here is the
reference:

If someone has already gone to the trouble of creating an Excel spreadsheet,
there is very little reason they would also need a DL.
