Importing Contacts From Excel

I'm trying to import a whole load of contacts that are in an excel
spreadsheet into Outlook.

I go through the whole process and it starts to import but it then crashes.

Once its crashed I go to the Contact folder I was trying to import into and
there are 30,000+ blank contact entries (many more than the number of entries
I was trying to import)

But when I delete the folder and look at my Deleted Items I can see the
contacts in there and they are not blank.

What is going on??
 
I'm not sure but can you drag them from deleted items to a new Contacts
folder and have them in-tact?
