Import photo Access 2003

Hello,

I have made a database in Access 2000. There are about 500 records and each
record has a photo of a person. When I installed Access 2003 I can see the
photos I have already inserted but when I want to insert a new one in the
square I see a preveiw of the photo and the name of the file of the photo. I
found a solution with paintbrush but it takes too much time and it's very
difficult for an novice user. Is there an easy way as before with Access
2000? If anyone knows please contact:

Thanks

For some reason Microsoft decided to remove the OLE server from the Office
2003 suite. You need to get your Office 2000 CD and do a custom install.
Disable everything and JUST install the Microsoft Photo Editor from the
Access Office Tools section.

If I understood correct, I just have to install the Microsoft Photo Editor
from the Office 2000 cd and that's it?
Should I unistall the 2003 Ms Photo Editor first?

Office 2003 doesn't have Photo Editor: it has Picture Manager instead. I
don't believe there are any problems with both of them coexisting.

Why is it that adding a 17k JPG to a table increases the file size by
1.5 MBs?

This renders the feature useless

Access wasn't intended to store images internally. The recommended approach
is to store the images externally, and only store a link to the image in the
database.

What was the OLE Object data type inteded for then?

The issue is what Access does to images when storing them. You can use the
OLE Object data type for images, but Access is extremely inefficient in how
it does it.

There are techniques that can be employed to get around many of the issues
(see, for instance, what Stephen Lebans has at
http://www.lebans.com/loadsavejpeg.htm or the DBPix control from Ammara at
http://www.ammara.com/acctech.html )

For the most part, though, it's much easier just to keep the images external
to the database.
