Trying to import OUTLOOK (XP) messages and I get an error stating that MAPI
was not installed? Is there another way to import old OUTLOOK messages?

Outlook has to be installed on the same machine, and also must be the
default Mail client.

Windows Mail cannot import a .pst file unless Outlook is installed on the
Vista computer.

You can install Outlook, copy the .pst to the Vista computer, open the .pst
with Outlook, then you can import into Windows Mail.

Or,
If you have Outlook installed on an XP computer, import the .pst data into
Outlook Express, copy the .dbx files and .wab file to the Vista computer,
and import into Windows Mail.

As long as Outlook is set as the default email client....

Thanks for the info. I have copied the .pst data into
Outlook Express, I see the wab file, but I don't see any .dbx files. There
are various .dll files. Am I missing something?

Presumably you IMPORTED the Outlook data into Outlook Express?
In OE do Tools-Options-Maintenance-Store Folder and that will tell you where
the dbx files are.
You must copy ALL the dbx files, including the one called Folders.dbx in
order for WM to see the files as an OE message store.
