Import of Outlook 2007 Rules does not work

Working with Outlook 2007 and XP SP3.

Have one user that has over 80 rules so I made a backup copy by exporting
them.

His email account became corrupted and we had to recreate the account on the
server as well as his profile on the laptop.

First question was "where all my rules". I thought no problem... lets just
import the file and they would all be there.

WRONG!

The rules are there, but the directions for folders to move things to are
"invalid".

The email account is exactly the same. We synced the entire folder
structure back from the exchange server... so that is the same.

Why are all the folder locations now invalid?

Suggestions or workarounds greatly appreciated.

Is there anyone out there familiar with Rules exporting and importing?

Rules contain more than just a folder name, it seems. They appear to contain
a reference to the complete folder path and the location of the PST as well.
From what you describe, you may have to visit each rule and rechoose the
folder.

The issue appears to be that this user is a heavy user of rules... so in the
past the Exchange Admin increased the allowable size of the rules file from
the default 32k to 256K. However, when the account was recently recreated
due to corruption on the server... we were back to the default of 32k. The
import of the rules subsequently crashed... without any error messages... but
incomplete rules.

We will be reimporting shortly and will post back.

What's a little odd in your post is that Exchange 2003 and earlier cannot
adjust the 32K limit on the mailbox and Exchange 2007 has a default 64K limit,
not a 32K limit. The 256K limit is available only for Exchange 2007.

We are using Exchange 2007 on Windows Server 2008. The machine is out of
town and Outlook is having other issues at the moment so we have not tried to
reimport yet.

We had access to the machine again. We created a new mail profile, waited
for sync with the Exchange server to complete (all folders in place) and then
imported the rules.

I could see all the rules... and the first three I checked, the folder paths
were intact...

However, about one minute later, the paths all disappeared - replaced with
the prompt to enter "specified folder"

Went back to the first three rules I checked... and now they too no longer
showed the path.

I can only assume at this point that the "path" info includes profile
info... so if the profile changes, the path becomes invalid once the system
completes itself.

Anyone else have any ideas? Kinda makes the backup idea less than desired.
