In Windows Mail I clicked Import>Outlook and then got an error message saying
"Messages cannot be imported from MAPI Client. MAPI is not installed as
this computer or an error occurred while initializing." I don't know what
MAPI is, but if it has to do with a server, I don't have one and don't want
one.

Windows Mail cannot import a .pst file unless Outlook is installed on the
Vista computer.

You can install Outlook, copy the .pst to the Vista computer, open the .pst
with Outlook, then you can import into Windows Mail.

Or,
If you have Outlook installed on an XP computer, import the .pst data into
Outlook Express, copy the .dbx files and .wab file to the Vista computer,
and import into Windows Mail.

Outlook is already installed on same computer and in fact that is what I am
using but now want to try Windows Mail. I checked the files, and yes the pst
file is there. I have checked both import and export on both Outlook and
Windows Mail. I still get the same error message.

It sounds like you need to do a repair-install of Outlook, because its
MAPI component is not registered with Vista.

How do I copy the .dbx and .wab files from outlook express to import into
Windows Mail? Thanks, Allen
