Export emails from Outlook 2007 to Windows Vista Mail

Mitja Harej

Well, the subject tells it all. I would like to transfer my emails from
Outlook 2007 to Windows Vista Mail. When I try to import emails in Windows
Vista Mail (File => Import => Messages => Microsoft Outlook) I get the
following error:

"Messages cannot be imported from MAPI client. MAPI is not installed on this
computer or an error occured while initializing it."

This happens on a standalone computer (not part of a workgroup or domain). I
also archived my emails in Outlook in a PST file, but don't know how ot
import in Windows Vista Mail.

Best regards,

The error means you don't have a MAPI email client (Outlook) installed. If
you install Outlook on your Vista machine, connect it to your .PST file, and
try the import again, it will work. Windows Mail, like Outlook Express
before it, REQUIRES Outlook to be installed; only Outlook can open a .PST
file and provide the import source for WM.

I have Office 2007 (trial version of Office 2007) installed and working
correctly, as I'm able to receive and send emails with it. Trial is going
to expire soon and I'm looking to export the emails to Windows Mail. Where
do I get the MAPI client in order to export the emails to Windows Mail?

Thanks.

If you have Outlook 2007 running, you already have the MAPI
client. Do the export before the trial expires.

When trying to export emals by clicking:

1. File
2. Import
3. Messages
4. Microsoft Outlook

I always get the message "Messages cannot be imported from MAPI client. MAPI
is not installed on this computer or an error occured while initializing
it." and cannot proceed to export emails. Looks like my copy of Outlook 2007
has some issues. I guess I will have to print my emails...

Check 'Computer Access|Default Programs', Outlook should be set as the
default email program and it should have all of its defaults. The actions
you provide bring up an Outlook profile prompt (if Outlook isn't running) or
my current Outlook folder list (if Outlook is open) on my machine (Vista
ultimate with Outlook 2007). You might also try starting Outlook with the
/CheckClient command line switch; with this, outlook will check to see if
its the default client and will offer to make itself so if it isn't.
