import/export option greyed out

I decided to change from Mozilla Thunderbird to Outlook 2007. I saved my
contacts in csv (and ldif) format but I cannot import them to Outlook 2007
since under File menu the Import/Export option is greyed out (cannot be
selected). I tried to repair Office but it did not help. Thank you for any
hints on how I could import my contacts.

Rerun your Office (Outlook) setup using Add/Remove options and ensure that
you have the import/export filters checked.

I checked the Office setup and all import/filters are installed. I tried to
remove and reinstall them, but it did not help either.

Have you tried running either of:

"Office Diagnostics" from within Outlook or
"Repair" from the installation options (making sure that all the filters are
first installed)

If that doesn't work, then perhaps someone else has some other ideas that
may help you since the only other thing I can think of off the cuff would be
to completely uninstall Office(Outlook) and then re-install if the above 2
suggestions don't work.

I tried both. Office Diagnostics did not detect any problems and the Repair
did not help either. If possible, I would like to avoid reinstalling the
whole Office 2007.

Can outlook.pst be corrupted and can it be fixed?

Another solution I was thinking of is importing my contacts to Hotmail (I
already did it) and adding a LDAP addressbook, but I am not sure whether and
how it can be done.

Thank you for any hints.

To check (and correct if required) your PST file - you would need to run
ScanPST but doubt that a errors in a PST file would prevent the
import/export filters from being available.

As for LDAP etc - not something familair with but certainly not an approach
I'd use regardless - would much rather rectify the root problem whatever the
cause may be. Something is obviously something wrong in the config if the
options are not accessible but yet show as being installed.

Thank you. I am not sure how to fix this problem then. It does not seem to
make sense the reinstall the whole Office suite, so I will try to resinstall
only Outlook.

OK, after some time, i found out the solution, I hope this may help others:

If the Import/Export wizard is unavailable, verify that the language or
country/region selected in the Regional and Language Options dialog box in
Control Panel matches the Outlook User Interface (UI) language.

Hmmmm........... not a condition I can reproduce running several tests with
various combinations of regional and MS Office MUI language settings
(something that we do work with).

What was the selected language option in the Regional Settings versus the
language setting for Outlook '2007? Also, at the risk of asking an obvious
question, was the appropriate '2007 MUI language pack installed for the
selected Outlook '2007 language?
