Import e-mail from Outlook to Windows Mail

I'm trying to import my e-mail from Outlook into Windows Mail 6.0 and I've
gone to File -> Import -> Messages -> Microsoft Outlook. When I click
"Next", the next message that pops up is "Messages cannot be imported from
the MAPI client. An error has occurred" and I am then left with no other
options.

Does anyone know what this is or why I am getting this error message?

Good news, maybe....I ended up installing Outlook on my new computer and then
went into Windows Mail and tried the below again and no longer received the
error message I noted below. However, I then had to import my .PST backup
file into the Outlook program I just installed (and not into Windows Mail).
Then I went to Windows Mail and started the import process that way. This
long winded process did work in getting my mail imported into Windows Mail.
Good luck.

The MAPI error comes because Outlook is NOT installed, WM, like Outlook
Express, uses pieces of Outlook to access the .PST file; no Outlook, no
import and you get that error message. Install Outlook and everything will
start to work.

NEVER import a .PST file into Outlook! Doing so almost always corrupts the
Outlook profile, plus you lose the following information:

1. Custom Forms
2. Custom Views
3. Connections between contacts and activities
4. Received dates on mail
5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar
6. Journal connections
7. Distribution Lists

Copy your old .PST file(s) to the new machine and reuse it:

The address book is a wab file, so search for *.wab. Then copy it to the
desktop of the Vista machine and use File | Import | Address book and point
to that file.

Yep, a tool provided by the program's author that virtually guarantees
problems is truly special indeed!

I have tried installing Outlook but I still get the MAPI error when I try to
import into Windows Mail from a PST file. Any ideas?
