Import DBX boxes into Vista mail?

N

Nancy

I have copied several of the .dbx boxes from my old computer onto a flash
drive, in order to be able to 'recreate' them on my new computer in Windows
mail. I run Vista home, and can not figure out how to make these folders
show up in my mail program. How do I do get these folders from Outlook
Express 6 to show up in Windows mail on this computer?
Thanks,
Nancy

1. Go to Outlook Express > Tools > Maintenance Tab > Store Folder.
2. Make a note of its location and navigate to it. If you haven't moved it,
it's here C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{long name}\Microsoft\Outlook Express. You may have to show
'hidden' files in Folder Options to see it. Close Outlook Express.
3. Copy the whole folder to an external source. You can omit any files you
don‘t want, i.e. you probably only want Inbox and Sent Items. Remove any
‘Read only’ attributes via a right-click > Properties.
4. In Windows Mail go to File > Import > Messages > OE6 > Next > Import Mail
and follow the wizard to import your mail boxes from the exported folder you
made earlier.
5. Once these are imported, a sub-folder named Imported Folder is created
for each one imported. Go to it and drag the messages to the proper boxes.

Firstly, you need to go back to your old computer and copy the file called
Folders.dbx.
Then copy all your dbx files (including Folders.dbx) into a folder on your
Vista computer to which you have full read-write permissions. (A new folder
in your Documents folder would be ideal). Then in Windows Mail do
File-Import-Messages, choose Outlook Express and navigate to the folder you
created. This will NOT work without the file called Folders.dbx.

If you omit the file called Folders.dbx then WM won't see an Outlook Express
message store - that file MUST be included.
