Importing mail from outlook express

Q

QA2008

Hi, I just got a new computer. I put my outlook express .dbx files onto
a disk and expected to be able to import them to my new computer,
which has Windows Vista basic home edition. I cannot figure out how
to do this? Can someone please tell me how to import my old mail from
my .dbx files into Windows Mail?

Thanks!

If you used Outlook Express on the old computer, see

Did you get all the .dbx files, including the one that is an index to the
others but does not include any messages?

See here for instructions, not all of which you still need:

Bring along the .wab file if you want your old contacts also.
After you copy the files to a directory on your Vista
computer's hard drive, but before you import them into
Windows Mail, make sure the copies are read-write
instead of readonly.

Copy all of the OE .dbx files (including folders.dbx) from the XP computer
to a temporary folder on the Vista computer
Open Windows Mail, File - Import - Messages - Microsoft Outlook Express 6
import from OE6 store directory
find the temporary folder where you copied the .dbx files (BUT DON'T OPEN
IT).
Next.... etc.

If you want to import your contacts, copy the .wab file over, and do a
similar File - Import
of the Windows Contacts.

I am also in the same but I have found the best solution is to ignore W mail
and install Live mail which works both on XP and Vista.
Live mail can automatically transfer everything,
It is easy to transfer from Live mail to Live mail.
