immediate log off after log on in XP

C

clive

I was cleaning a Trojan Horse and needed to diable restore function so my
virus s/w could clean the System Volume Information folder. Now I cannot
boot to DOS, or, when I try to boot normally or in safe mode I get to the
logon screen, select either admin or user, and I see it is loading
parameters then it immediately logs me off, saves settings and drops me back
to the logon screen. I see a Safe Mode warning screen flash by when I try
booting in safe mode.

I can get to a dos prompt using an ultimate boot CD but it will not exicute
a dos based virus application on my C drive. There appears to be bad
pointers between the C and D drives (where D is the restore drive on C).

Also, I suspect, the virus is looking for a file it cannot access and logs
me off. There are four virus files in the System Volume Information folder
but I only copied the first name that AVG reported.

Can someone give me some pointers so I can get to a desktop again, either
normally or Safe Mode?

Thanks
