XP Immediately logs me off

When my computer boots up, it briefly shows the desktop and then goes to the
Welcome screen. From there, when I try to log on as the user or the
administrator, it starts loading and then logs off and sends me back to the
welcome screen.

I have Adaware but the userinit.exe registry entry looks ok. I don't see
wsaupdater.exe anywhere on my computer.

I have tried the repair installation of Windows but that didn't work.

I am able to boot up in safe mode. Are registry changes I make in safe mode
still valid or is it an absolute requirement that I connect to the registry
through a network or with BartPE?

i had a similar problem once, it was malware, i looked in msconfig and
there was something in the startup trying to look important, it was
called "Windows XP.bat" I opened it manually and it opened DOS and shut
the computer down, so look around in your start up for anything odd.

Mavak,

As you're able to logon using Safe mode, then the "userinit" value is not
the problem. Your best bet is to inspect the Event logs for any clues on
failed logon. You'd be checking the "System" log.

How do I view the error messages registered in Event Log?:
