Can't logon

I have removed a nasty spyware/trojan called Spymaxx, amongst others, from my
Windows XP system. Now when I try to logon it says 'logging on' and then
turns right around and logs off. It does the same thing when I try to go
into safe mode or safe mode with a command prompt. I have tried booting from
the OS CD and going into repair, copying userinit.exe to wsaupdater.exe , but
still have the same results. Any ideas???

Windows does come up. I just can't log on. Does this procedure apply to
this problem also?

Also, if I restore my registry won't I also be restoring the trojan that
started all this?
