IMAP FOLDERS missing from tools menu in Office 2007

Hi

I have set up my work email account on Outlook on my home laptop.

1st prob - During the setup it automatically was set to download all emails
from the server to my laptop!!! So I now do not have my inbox on webmail, or
outlook at work due to the mails no longer living on the server. I have
deselected that option!

2nd prob - I have many subfolders in my inbox - I know that to see them I
need to subscribe to IMAP folders - but the option to do that is missing from
the Tools menu -

What can I do?

In theory, once I have enabled this - I can move all items from my inbox on
my home laptop to a subscribed subfolder, which will move it all back to the
server, and I can then move back to the inbox.......

Please help!

Thanks

So why did you not set up the account as an Imap account in the first place?
(which is completely different from a pop account, and only available if
your ISP supports imap)

Because outlook auto configed it as a pop3 account - it will not let me
"change" the account - the drop down box for account type in change email
accounts is grey'd out!

If i remove account and start again I may lose my inbox :-(

You would need to remove the POP3 account and start over to get an IMAP
account.

Removeing the account does nothing to the data file, and you cannot change
it to imap because imap is a different type of connection

Any ideas how I can FORCE outlook to set an account as IMAP - it's little
wizard is doing what it wants.... ie setting a POP3 account again!

Cheers

Because outlook auto configed it as a pop3 account

Outlook will autoconfigure an account only if you allow it to do so. When you
create an account, there is a check box that tells Outlook to allow you to
configure the account manually.

Since POP will download only the Inbox, if you have other folders on the
server, they'll still be there and will contain whatever they contained
before. Outlook cannot see them or download anything from them.
2nd prob - I have many subfolders in my inbox - I know that to see them I
need to subscribe to IMAP folders - but the option to do that is missing

What can I do?

Adding the IMAP account to the same mailbox and you'll be able to put things
back the way they were.

To subscribe to IMAP folders, in the main Outlook window, right-click the root
of the IMAP PST and choose "IMAP Folders". Click Query. Then select all the
folders to which you which to subscribe, then click "Subscribe".

Thanks for your reply.

I am right clicking the "inbox" of my account and other parts of the tree on
the navigation area on the right of outlook - no imap folders command.... any
ideas?

Notice I did not say "Inbox". Notice also that the Navigation Pane is on the
left side of the Outlook window. If it really is an IMAP account,
right-clicking on the root of that PST should have an "IMAP Folders" entry in
the context menu.
