IMAP deletions setting not working

I use Windows Mail on my ISP's IMAP server, and am quite happy with it
except for just one little thing. When I delete a message I want it to
remain showing in the message list with a strike through, until I purge the
messages. It worked for years in Outlook Express for me, and also works like
that in Thunderbird, which, for reasons I won't go into here, I prefer not
to use. But in Windows Mail the message is removed immediately from the
message list when I delete it. I have found the relevant checkbox in
Options/Advanced, and unselected it, but the behaviour doesn't change.

I have used Vista for about four months now, so I am reasonably comfortable
with it, and have just done a complete clean reinstall to get rid of all the
mess I created while learning to use it properly. Therefore I assume this
delete behaviour is the default, as everything is still "factory" standard.

It seems the option to continue showing a deleted message with strike
through should be available, but I can't seem to get it to do that. Can any
expert here offer any suggestions? I would be most grateful.

i had the same problem and it seems the strikethrough is not enabled by
default. so, click on the folder of your inbox, then click View > Current
View > "show deleted messages." The strikethrough should work now.

Hi Curran,

Bingo! That got it working. Not sure if I would have stumbled over that one
eventually on my own - probably not. Thank you so much for your help. It's
just how I like it now.

I am having the same problem. I would like to see the items I delete. I was
told to check the box you unchecked.
