Images won't display on Internet Explorer

For some reason, images won't display in Internet
Explorer. For many .png, .gif, and .tiff files, all that
displays is a red "X" where the picture is supposed to
be. All WIndows updates are installed. These same
images appear just fine on my laptop, but will not load
on my desktop PC. Both desktop and laptop are running
WIndows XP Pro with Service Pack 1a. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks.
