images download only in bitmap format

Web images that I try to download defaults to bitmap. In other words, it used
to be that whenever I would download an image (r/c, Save Picture as...), it
would default to the image name and type as posted on the web, but now it
defaults to "untitled" as the name and "bitmap" as the type. It just started
doing this "overnight" without me changing any settings. Any ideas as to why
and how to change it back?

The usual fix is to clear your cache.
IE-Tools-Internet Options-Delete Files (in the TIF section)

That seems to work about 98% of the time but if it doesn't, close IE
and reopen and do it again. Also it has been reported that clear
cookies helps, but ensure you save any that you need.

This happens when the image is not in your cache - so cleaning/fixing
the cache can be a solution. Sometimes reloading the image will
eventually cache it.

Some other people asked the same questions too.
Instead of to do something like editing the windows registry table or clear
internet explorer cache, I suggest you try a software: ie picture downloader.

Emptying the Temporary Internet Files usually fixes that.
