images do not appear when viewing a webpage

Many times when I attempt to view a webpage the page loads
but most or all of the images on the page are replaced
with small boxes with red x'x in them. If I right click on
the box and view properties there is usually a .gif
or .jpeg file extension and although those are files that
I can open/display(for example in My Pictures) they will
not open or display on the viewed page. What's going on?
Thanks.

Tools/Internet Options/Advance. Under Multimedia
check "Show Pictures".

Control Panel - INternet Options - Advanced page, and look down for the
Multimedia section. Ensure that at least 'Show Pictures' is checked
(the only one in that section I have unchecked is the very first line of
it)
