images come out crude

When I print out a .jpg image it seems crude. It's lacking resolution and
looks a bit like a negative. Yet when the same image is printed from a
different computer it looks fine. I have tried printing it from irfanview and
from picture gear lite. The printer (a magicolor 2300dl) is set to print
color at 1200x600. The printer settings on my computer match another
computer. Does anyone know thats going on?

What is the dpi (dots per inch) of the .jpg image? If you got the image off the Internet somewhere, it's progably 72 or 96 dpi. For an image to look good it should be 300 dpi or greater.

I don't have irfanview installed right now, but you may be able to create a new blank image at 300dpi the same width and height as the one you want to print. Then copy/paste the old image into the new. I've done this in other graphic programs and it'll work ok for most images.
