Images are cut off in presentation

When I go to present a slide the images and some words are off the edges of
the monitor/projector. I am at a los and don't know how to fix the problem.
Any suggestions?
 
Are you running the computer in mirror mode (same image on computer screen
as projector)?

If yes, then do the slides show up as intended on the computer monitor?

If yes, then the projector settings need to adjusted (first step would be to
go into projector menu, find the 'restore to defaults' options).
