images appearing blurred Internet Explorer 6 SP2

I have tried everything to fix a neighbors image problems in IE6. Evidently
there is something I am missing. There images appear blurred and pixilated
when viewing web pages or when viewing images attached to their email
(hotmail and yahoo).

The only thing that worked was the installation of FireFox. However, for my
own edification, could some post a url to the reparation of this problem in
IE6 XP SP2? Thanks.

I have this problem too. I am not aware of any solution, but if it
helps I am running XP Media Center 2005 Dell OEM. It doesn't bother me
that much since I use firefox most of the time, but I too would like to
know whats up.

Its' really too bad that Microsoft has not allowed us to use add/remove to
uninstall Internet Explorer. They would have far less problems with
technical issues from the average computer user if we could simply uninstall
IE browser and reinstall it from Windows Update.

To any MVP reading this, please let the department head for IE know that
millions of people would like to repair IE like we could with version 5.5.
A new patch would take care of that easily, I am sure.

Since IE 7 is scheduled for inclusion in Windows Updates, it is completely
unlikely that any more improvements will be made for IE 6. Any questions
about IE 7 should be directed to this newsgroup:

As for your original question, normally blurred and/or pixelated images
occur when you are using some sort of dialup "web accelerator" from your
ISP. Earthlink and AOL have them. These programs give the illusion that
your surfing is faster by actually sending less data - hence the pixelated
images. If this fits your situation, try disabling the web accelerator. I
don't know why you wouldn't have the problem in a different browser.

This is definately not the source of my problem as I have a cable
connection and use no "accelerator" software. Plus, like you said, if
that were the case images would appear pixelated in firefox also...
they do not. Thanks though.

Last Friday, my IE stopped displaying jpgs. They will not display in IE, in
Outlook, or in Frontpage. Any jpg is distorted. In Firefox, everything
displays properly. I have totally reformatted my hard drive, installed from
Recovery CD, added all Microsoft and HP updates. I searched the internet for
any fixes, and tried them all. This will not go away. I also downloaded IE
7. The distorted jpgs are still there. There has to be a reason why this is
happening.

You might want to post your question to the experts in the internet explorer
