Images added to ppt in 2003 show up as empty boxes in ppt 2000

I am using PowerPoint 2003 (all updates installed) and am modifying a
PowerPoint that in the past has been worked on in various versions of
PowerPoint. I have inserted some new jpeg images (using the insert file
option), which show up perfectly fine in all 2003 machines, but for some
reason show up only as empty boxes in PP 2000. All other images in the
presentation work, except for any that I am trying to add now. Any thoughts?
BTW, in saving, I am using the Option to embed fonts (only characters in
use)--not sure if this matters.
Thx,

Between this and the other problem, I'd definitely give roundtripping a shot.

To be sure, you did mean that you're using Insert, Picture, From File to bring
the JPGs in, right?

How were the JPGs created? What happens if you open them in MS Photo Editor
or some image editing app other than the one that created them, then resave as
JPG?

Correct, the image (a standard jpeg created in Photoshop) was inserted, not
copied and pasted. The only we we were able to solve the problem was by
inserting the photo in the same fasion but on the 2000 machine--apparently
that did the trick!
Thanks!

Thanks Glenna,
My only concern is that we are planning to send this PPT to numerous
distributors, whose computers I obviously cannot fix. If it shows up errored
on two machines in our office, I'm guessing it will do the same on all
machines with that version of PPT. Do you think this is a problem with the
2003 platform that is creating the file, or each of the 2000 machines
attempting to open it?
Thx!

I can sorta guess at a few reasons this might work but it'd be nothing but a guess.
I'd be interested in seeing one of these JPGs though. If you've got one that's
non-proprietary, could you email it to me at steve at-sign pptools dot com?

In checking to make sure it wasn't that JPEG in particular, I tried inserting
various jpegs, all of which would have worked in the past, and none of which
worked now. But, inserting them on the 2000 machine seemed to do the trick,
so we are good to go!
