Save ppt 2003 to be runnable on ppt 2000

Mitch Gallant

Is there a simple way to save a ppt document written with PPT 2003 so that
it will run as intended on a specified downlevel system like PPT 2000.
I know about Save As .. PowerPoint 98 - 2003 option. Does this Save As ..
option show which specific features that were in the original 2003 ppt that
will not be available in downlevel ppt versions?

To make sure that it will run as expected in all earlier versions through 97
click on Tools, Options, view, and checkmark the Disable new features before
you generate you presentation.

Don't do the "save as" thing. If you look closely, it actually says
something like "save as PPT 2003-2007 & 95." It's that "& 95" part that'll
getcha. Do what Michael says and disable the new animations/transitions and
passwords so you don't use them when you develop the presentation, and then
just save the file as usual.

If you want to test to see what it will run like in 2000 (but you don't have
PPT 2000 available), you can play the file in the PPT 97 Viewer, which is
fairly close to playing in PPT 2000. Not exact, but fairly close.

Try Tools|Options|Edit instead.

My mistake, fat fingers should have been Tools. Options, Edit.

Ahh there it is. I looked in that Edit panel, but looked too quickly!
These 3 features (New animation effects, multiple masters and password
protection) I'm sure are not used in the ppts i'm editing.
Thanks,
- Mitch

The new animation effects if not turned off, will be available in 2003, but
will not play in 2000. But if you turn them off, they will not be available
as a choice when your creating your presentation, and whatever you do chose
will work in the earlier versions of PowerPoint.

Yes I understand that. Would be useful to know exactly what those "new

Yes I understand that. Would be useful to know exactly what those "new
animation effects are" :)

For shape animation, 2000 supports entrance effects, and a somewhat narrower
range of those. You can see the supported list when you apply an entry
animation with the options settings described by others.

No Exit, Emphasis or Motion path animations. No triggers.
