Im stuck and need more help

I have just reformatted computer as i have done several times before
with out problems..
Now my computer is locking up frquently at anytime whether i am on the

net or just fiddling on the computer.... times range from 30 secs to
ten minutes .... no viruses found .. all drivers updated... all fans
working ....
celeron 2.8ghz, 256 RAM, nvidia geforce4 mx 440,
no new programs....no new hardware...
never had this problem before...
any info need to be put in laymans terms
much appriciated

Why have you had to reformat so many times? Perhaps that's a sign that
you're doing something wrong.

That may well be the case here, but you haven't provided any
information that might point to a cause. What were you trying to do
immediately before the problem started? Any error messages? Any
information available from Event Viewer?

..... thanx for the quick reply... i think it all started when i had a
game on my comp that seem to cause a physical dump when shutting the
game down.... i then proced to install AC-97 sound thingy to fix the
problem...which it did but im thinking this is when the freezes
began..... so i have reformatted the computer and installed XP pro
which i have done sveral times in the past and am quite confident it
was all done properly...and got all the latest drivers for everything
but still seems to freeze.... i havent had the computer to stay on long

enough for the event viewer to run yet......
 
Things to try/ check
1. lower video acceleration
2. test RAM with memtest86
3. replace power supply
4. reseat all cards/ cables inside the housing
