So I followed Ken Blake's suggestion and followed the instructions on the
link he provided to Set up Outlook Express Newsreader. Down to # 7 was fine.
For # 8 I subscribed to Windows Vista general but what is next. I still can't
post new posts.

Just click "New Post" on the toolbar.

By the way, I should have mentioned that the Windows Vista version of
Outlook Express is no longer called Outlook Express, but Windows Mail.
However it's very similar.

To me this is so bizarre. I followed the instructions for setting up Outlook
Express Newsreader and then posted a message to the newsgroup to see if it
ends up here-but it doesn't seem to. To get "Here" I go start, help and
support, windows community. I've used Newsgroups for years but this place
seems unconnected to them. Like a parallel group. Are they connected? Will
the post I put on the newsgroup titled "Same newsgroup" appear here? Who
thinks up these things?

I should have been clearer. I have been using Newsgroups for years via
Outlook Express/Windows Mail. I had no idea that this group accessed via
start, help and support, windows community was the same as "those"
newsgroups. The format is so different I didn't make any connection.

"This place" *is* a newsgroup. If you are accessing it via a web site,
you are the one doing something bizarre. Almost all of the rest of us
who have been here for a while know how terrible the web interface is
and access these newsgroups via Outlook Express/Windows Mail or some
other newsreader, just as any other newsgroup.

Your message got to this group via the web interface. If you are
having trouble finding it on the web, join the club of the many, many
others who have trouble finding their postings using the web
interface. As I said earlier, it's awful.

Forget about the web. To post here, post using Outlook Express/Windows
Mail, which you say you know how to do. To see your messages, use
Outlook Express/Windows Mail again (or use some other newsreader; I
use Forte Agent). Stay away from the web interface entirely. It's
awful.

I don't think anybody is doing anything bizarre. The parallel systems are
what is bizarre. Microsoft via their help and support direct you to use a web
interface and don't mention anything about using Windows mail to access
support. I still don't know why I couldn't post using web.

You're right. I shouldn't have used the word "bizarre." It *is*
Microsoft who points you in what most of us here consider to be the
wrong direction.

I still don't know why I couldn't post using web.

You can. You just couldn't figure out how. As it said, you're far from
the only person who has had that problem. The web interface is
terrible and difficult to use.

But I can't tell you exactly how to do it, because I don't use it
myself, and it's been quite a while since I even looked at it.

Vista by default doesn't have ability to read the
..hlp files so you'll have to find a windows xp unit
and goto /system32 and copy winhlp32.exe (i think)
and paste that into /system32 in Vista.
That should allow reading/using most older help files.

If you have no help files at all...most likely you
will find them either on the install CD or at the
Adobe web site and many attendant forums.
