I'm missing a key on regedit, how to get it back.

I've got windows XP home edition and after some troubles with my PC, I'm
missing a key on regedit.
Could someone help me to get it back please.
If I go to regedit and follow the steps:
<HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop>
""activeDesktop"" is missing and without it, I can't put any picture on my
desktop background.

I don't have it either, but I can change mine.

Do what

says, the gpedit.msc bit and change to "not configured".

Some things alter this, the last one I had in for a fix was AOL 9.0 which
had changed the settings.

Have you tried enabling the active desktop?
Do a search under Help and Support for Active Desktop, then select Add Web
Content To Your Desktop.
