I currently cannot run programs in the background so most of the antyvirus
programs that i know of are of no use,

I would like an anti-virus program used only to scan individual files
downloaded from the net and such. ive checked out a few of them and they
all run in the background. regardless of weather or not it is enabled.
I only really want the rightclick scaning feature.

are there any of this kind?
your links and/or comments are hoped for.
thanks

Why can not run programs in background?

How do think Windows Xp works??

in the main settings of an antivirus program ,you should be
able to have it not run on start-up. or use run, type
msconfig and uncheck the antivirus from starting and then
right clicking hopefully should cause it to launch for file
scans only.

Oh wow, I posted on the wrong page. my appologies I meant to post that
somewhere else. (my machine with xp is Out of commision) and I managed
to get win98 running on a 100mhzPentium with only 16mbRAM until i replace
the Mobo, that is why i dont want programs running.
and doing a full system scan takes way too long just to check a couple files
at a time.

if you are still willing to reply it be appreciated,
but if you have the link to the appropriate newsgroup regarding AVs that
will suffice.
