I have a Dell desktop that came with Vista. I have Office 2007 Ultimate. All
has worked well until the last month when Outlook wouldn't open at all. At
first I
got a message asking me if I wanted to open in Safe Mode because it hadn't
been shut down properly. (It had). So I tried that. That worked for a few
days. Then nothing would open. I uninstalled and reinstalled it and it still
won't open. (I get the "Not Responding error message). All other applications
in office work fine.

I then uninstalled all the add-ins. That didn't work. Whenever I attempt to
open Outlook it justs hangs and won't open. I need to shut it down using Task
Manager. I try again and it prompts me if I won't safe mode...but that won't
open. I repeat the Task Manager Shut down and try again. Now I get prompted
if I want Detect and Repair When I have tried that, it does nothing. If I go
through this cycle maybe 6 times, I can finally get it to open in Safe Mode
where it stays open for awhile then crashes spontaneously. Also, since I have
been having these troubles I can no longer sync Oulook with my Iphone and it
had been working perfectly for months.

Also, no new applications were installed or changes made before this problem
started.

Does anyone have any ideas or can point mein hte right direciton to get this
resolved. I am truly going nuts over this. Thanks in advance for your help.
This site has always been so incredibly useful to me.

What is being logged to the Event Viewer regarding this?
Does Outlook work when you logon to the computer as a different user?

Thank you for such a fast response. I am not sure what the Event Viewer is.
How do I get to that? Also, I am the only one that logs onto the computer.
Should I set up another "user" to test it?

Thanks again,

Betty

Start-> type; Event Viewer
Then look in the Application log for errors logged by Outlook.

Testing it with a newly created user will indeed help troubleshooting this
issue. Note that it will run a single short setup to complete installation
of Office for that user. Simply let it finish this procedure. You might want
to start with opening Word instead of Outlook.

There are a ton of these messages. Is that what you were looking for?
(Thanks for telling me about this).

Hi again.

I tried the new user account and loading Outlook after I opened Word. No
luck. It just hung there withotu fully opening. It did let me go to Safe Mode
almost immediately, however.

Thank you for the time you are spenidng on this. I really really appreicate
it. You are very kind to do it.

What is logged on the General tab? It could expose a certain element or dll
which it crashed on.

But safe mode did work? It would indicate a faulty addin then Which do you
have installed?

Robert,

Thank you for your reply. All add-ins were disabled in the beginning when I
read that that might be an issue. So, no add-ins installed.

Also, while safe mode does technically work, it typically takes 6-9 tries of
opening and closing with task manager for it to work.

If you have any ohter suggestions they would be greatly appreicated because
it looks like my iphone won't sync when Outlook is in safe mode.

Thank you so much,

Betty
