I bought Office 2007 specifically for Word and PowerPoint. I got the Word
down pat (or for as much as I need it) but the power point? Hoo! I got it so
I could read the PowerPoint stuff my friends send me in e mails. I cannot
get it to open or even acknowledge a PowerPoint e mail. I get an instruction

Command line option syntax error. Type Command /? for help.

Now what in the world does that mean? I have power point viewer 2003 and
2007, I have the PowerPoint program. It just will not open a pps. e mail.

any help is greatly appreciated. Type slowly so I can understand it, OK?

Hi Mike,

Don't worry, from time to time, we all feel like it should be easier than
it is.

First - with both the viewer and the program installed, PowerPoint may be
getting confused as to which it should use to open the file. Not to worry,
we'll fix that by sending you to one of the FAQ pages.
**Changing a File Association, Repairing broken File Associations
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00355.htm

Files are opened by whatever program is associated with the extension (.ppt,
..pps, etc.). Make sure that your extensions are associated with the
PowerPoint program.

Second - Some versions of Outlook Express have troubles opening pps files.
To open these files, save the attached pps file to the desktop and run it
from there by double clicking.

Third - Always make sure that all the updates and Service packs (SPs) are
installed on your machine. These fix a ton of minor bugs that can cause
problems.
**Office and PowerPoint Service Packs
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00543.htm

Lastly - Read this page. It will help head off many problems before they
get in your way.
**Do this before using PowerPoint seriously
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00034.htm

Hope this helps get you thru the rough start,

Thanks TDunn and Bill. I hate it when the answer turns out to be something
as simple as deleting an old file. I got rid of the 2003 viewer, reopened
and ran the 2007 viewer, shut things down and started things up again and it
worked like a champ. Bill, thanks for the service packs and the
pointers/directions links. All very helpful and greatly appreciated.

Many thanks again,

Glad you got it working. I could'nt resist. Software updates are always
very important and often the first step in troubleshooting..............TD
