Illegal copy of XP

An illegal copy of XP was installed when I brought my PC in for repairs
(The repairer has now disappeared). A friend of mine gave me a Window
XP (from 2002 when it originally came out) box which was never installe
in any machine. I tried installing it but ran in to a problem. At th
beginning of installation a window comes up which states that a newe
version is on the PC and the installation comes to a stop. Even thoug
I have an illegal copy the PC still recognizes that it is newer than
legit version of Windows. How do I get to install the legal XP

First, boot into your BIOS and set the CD drive to boot before the Hard
drive,
Insert your legal XP CD and reboot, watching the screen closely to press any
key to boot from the CD drive.

Click Install XP and going thru the screens, delete all Partitions to clean
the hard drive.
Create new partitions and format them in NTFS.
Continue installation.

This message appears because you are trying to install a previous version
(no service pack or SP1) on a later SP machine. Either do a clean install
as suggested by Squire (which will overwrite everything on the hard drive)
or create a slipstreamed version of your valid CD with SP 2. See
http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html and
http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?action=show&showarticle=49 for some info
and download autostramer here:
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=223562, download SP2 here
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

Again the first two URLs are for reference only, the second two are what you
need to create the slipstreamed file to burn to the new CD
